HackRF tutorial

Introduction
The standard HackRF One has: (HackRF One, HackRF One R9, HackRF One R10, HackRF One R10C etc)
- RF input/output SMA port
- CLK IN
- CLK OUT
PortaPack versions (H2, H2+, H4m). Some PortaPack H2 bundles appear to have multiple antenna connectors, but usually:
- one is for RF
- another may be GPS or expansion
- not true dual RF chains
So they are not equivalent to a phone’s multiple antenna system. The PortaPack adds:
- touchscreen
- buttons/wheel
- speaker/headphone
- SD card slot
- portable standalone operation
So you can use the SDR without a computer.
A huge number of HackRF + PortaPack units online are clones.
Other possibilities:
| SDR | MIMO | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| LimeSDR Mini | 1x1 | Better cellular work |
| LimeSDR USB | 2x2 | Full duplex |
| bladeRF 2.0 micro | 2x2 | Strong RF performance |
| USRP B200 | 1x1 | Professional ecosystem |
| USRP B210 | 2x2 | Very common in LTE labs |
Multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO)
USB-C OTG adapter and a good power source.
