Standing on Eggs

1. Stand on eggs in a box, without shoes.
2. A blown egg (shell only) supported vertically with weights being placed one by one onto it
   • How many kgs?

Dropping Eggs – Large and Small

1. Two similar chocolate eggs (shape, density) but different shapes. Drop them. Use different distances (eg. 1 meter, 10 meters).
2. Two small identical eggs. Ad horizontal velocity to other and drop the other without initial velocity. Use a camera.

Eggshells and Toothpaste

1. Wash the eggs and dry them
2. Coat two plain eggs with a good amount of toothpaste evenly (the other two eggs are reference).
3. Fill two glasses with cola and the other two glasses with black coffee.
4. Leave the experiment set-up for ~3 hours.

Acidity, CaCO₃. The fluoride in the toothpaste builds a protective layer.

Balancing Eggs

Use salt and blow the excess away.

Beating Egg Whites

take 4 samples:

1. Egg white only
2. Egg white plus sugar
3. Egg white plus salt
4. Egg white plus egg yolk (fat)

beat them with the mixer. Also

1. eggs at room temperature and eggs from the fridge
2. fresh and older eggs

“fluffiest” foam

Resolution: Egg white is 90% water and 10% proteins. Sugar helps more proteins gather on the surface of the air bubbles, making the bubbles more stable. Salt added to the mixture also inhibits the formation of bubbles. Older eggs white is more runny

1. Can we estimate with accuracy the amount of chocolate in different shapes?

Half Eggshell Experiments

1. Sink a half eggshell so that it sinks with the open side downwards. Which orientation they rest on the bottom of the jar of water.
   1. Give a challenge to get the half eggshell to land with the eggs shell upwards
2. " Holding a half eggshell with its open end down, balanced on the pointed end of a vertically held sheath knife, bring the knife down sharply so that it’s hand grip strikes the table, The challenge is to get the pointed end of the knife to penetrate the shell."
   1. Try the same experiment using e.g. an apple. How will the mass of the apple affect the answer compared with the eggshell? (Apple much heavier than the shell)
